Student travel eligibility

To be eligible to travel with a student metroCARD or pay for a student fare, some children and students will need to carry proof of entitlement.

High school students aged 15 years or older can travel on a student fare but must carry a South Australian government approved student I.D card.

Children or students aged 5 to 14 are also eligible to travel on a student fare but do not need to carry a student I.D.

University and tertiary students are not eligible for a student fare but may be eligible for a concession fare. More information: Concession.

Free travel

Children younger than 5 years old can travel for free when they are with a parent or carer on Adelaide Metro services.

On weekends, South Australian school holidays and public holidays, two children under the age of 15 can travel free when they are with an adult who is using an adult Daytrip (via the Buy & Go app or loaded to a metroCARD). Free travel for children doesn’t apply if the adult is using a Singletrip on a regular or concession metroCARD or a Seniors Card.
