Footy Express 2019

When: From Friday 19 July 2019

Game Changer Footy Express services are FREE!

The 2019 Toyota AFL Premiership Season match between Adelaide and Essendon will be held at Adelaide Oval, 7.20pm Friday 19 July 2019. Gates open at 5.00pm.

Leave the car at home and catch FREE Game Changer Footy Express bus, train or tram services with your valid AFL game day ticket.

All regular Adelaide Metro weekend bus, train and tram services are also free with your AFL game day ticket from first to last service on game day.

Regular Adelaide Metro weeknight bus, train and tram services are free three hours prior to the game start time with your AFL game day ticket.

Free travel on regular Adelaide Metro bus, train and tram services for Friday's match between Adelaide and Essendon will commence from 4pm.

Key details

BUS

Bus services set down and pick up at the Interchange (PDF 172KB) on King William Road, with some services using Victoria Drive and Sir Edwin Smith Avenue.

Regional buses will drop off and pick up on Pennington Terrace.

TRAIN

All Footy Express trains operate to and from Adelaide Railway Station, a short walk across the River Torrens Footbridge to Adelaide Oval.

TRAMS

Please note: Due to the City South Tram Line Replacement, there will be a period of major construction when tram services will be impacted from 11.30pm Saturday 6 July to last service Tuesday 23 July.

Substitute buses will be in place during this period from South Terrace to the Entertainment Centre, and to the East End.

Additional substitute bus services will run before and after the AFL matches to cater for people travelling to and from Adelaide Oval.

To Glenelg:

  • Post-match substitute buses from Festival Plaza to South Terrace will depart from a temporary stop on King William Road (Festival Plaza, on the western side/Elder Park side of King William Road). Trams will then operate from South Terrace to Glenelg.
  • A timetable (PDF 520KB) is available for the additional Footy Express substitute buses and trams.
  • Otherwise, timetable information for regular substitute buses can be found on the City South Tram Line Replacement page.

To Entertainment Centre:

  • Substitute buses will be operating between Stop W1 North Terrace (Adelaide Railway Station), to Stop 6 Port Road (Entertainment Centre).
  • Timetable information for regular substitute buses can be found on the City South Tram Line Replacement page.
  • Passengers can also catch the Outer Harbor or Grange train to Bowden.

To Botanic Gardens:

  • Substitute buses will be operating between Stop D North Terrace (Adelaide Railway Station), to Stop R1 North Terrace (Botanic Gardens).

GAME CHANGER FOOTY EXPRESS MAPS

Game Changer Footy Express bus, train and tram services operate from all parts of metropolitan Adelaide.

TAXI RANKS

Temporary taxi ranks will be installed at the following locations:

  • King William Road - west side, south Pennington Terrace.
  • Pennington Terrace - southern side, east of main car park entry and opposite on the northern side.
  • Montefiore Road - east side, north of War Memorial Drive.
  • War Memorial Drive - east of Montefiore Road (Disabled only).
  • The Casino taxi rank will be closed 9.45pm to 11.15pm.

PASSENGER DROP OFF

  • Pennington Terrace - southern side on the eastern end (13 vehicles)
 

Road closures

Between 3pm and 11.15pm

  • War Memorial Drive - between King William Road and the pedestrian footbridge.

Between 5.30pm and 9.15pm

  • Right turn from King William Road into Victoria Drive closed.

Between 9.15pm and 11.15pm (Buses excepted)

  • King William Road - between North Terrace and War Memorial Drive.
  • Victoria Drive - between King William Road and Kintore Avenue.
  • Sir Edwin Smith Avenue - between Pennington Terrace and King William Road (taxis permitted to travel west bound to access Adelaide Oval).
  • Pennington Terrace - between King William Road and Montefiore Road (taxis excepted).

Between 9.45pm and 11.15pm (Buses and trams excepted)

  • North Terrace - between King William Street and Victoria Street.
 

Bus stop closures

Stop 2 Montefiore Road will be relocated to just south of War Memorial Drive on the Morphett Street bridge from 4.30pm.

Between 9.15pm and 11.15pm

  • Stop A2 and A3 King William Road
  • Stop 1 King William Road - east and west
  • Stop 1 Sir Edwin Smith Ave north
  • Z1 and Z2 King William St buses will drop off at Stop Y2 King William Street
