How to recharge your card

Recharging adds value to the balance of your metroCARD.

There are a number of ways to recharge and all you need is a metroCARD account.

Create a metroCARD account or log in to your existing account.

There is a minimum $5.00 recharge value for metroCARDs.

*If the recharge is completed before 9pm, it should be available on your metroCARD when you use it the next day.

Recharging your metroCARD

You can recharge as needed or set up Auto recharge so you never run out of value on your metroCARD.

All you need is a Visa or MasterCard credit card and an online metroCARD account.

After recharging online, the value should be available from your first validation the next day.

If the recharge is completed before 9pm, it should be available on your metroCARD when you use it the next day.

The validator will flash both green and yellow lights to indicate that the online recharge has been added to your metroCARD. 

After recharging online, your updated balance and transaction history statement may take up to 24-48 hours to appear on your online metroCARD account.

Remember, if you need to recharge immediately you can instantly recharge by using a recharge machine on board any train or tram plus at many other popular locations, or by visiting one of nearly 250 suburban metroCARD agent.

If you are recharging on-board please note the machines will only accept Visa and MasterCard credit cards and coins.
