Adelaide Metro has a range of tickets and fares, the below information can help you decide which one is right for you:
A metroCARD is a rechargeable plastic card that you can use to travel on buses, trains and trams. We offer three different types of metroCARDs:
- Regular: For all users of public transport.
- Concession: For those travelling with proof of eligibility including full time tertiary and university students, and other government issued concession cardholders.
- Student: For primary and secondary students.
- 14/28 Day Pass: This pass gives you unlimited travel on buses, trains and trams for 14 or 28 days. These can be loaded to all types of metroCARDs or you can purchase through the Adelaide Metro Buy & Go app. These may be more economical if you use public transport several times per week.
- Daytrip Pass: This pass gives you unlimited travel on all buses, trains and trams for a full day. You can load this pass to a metroCARD or you can purchase it through the Adelaide Metro Buy & Go app. This pass may be more economical if you will be using public transport multiple times in one day.
- 3-day Visitor Pass: This pass gives you unlimited travel on all buses, trains and trams for 3 days. You can load this pass to a metroCARD or you can purchase it through the Adelaide Metro Buy & Go app. This pass may be more economical if you will be using public transport multiple times over 3 consecutive days.
Adelaide Metro Tap and Pay allows you to pay with your Visa, Mastercard or American Express (credit/debit card or enabled smart phone or device) on buses, trains and trams. Tap your Visa, Mastercard or American Express card to validate your fare. This may be a good option if you're happy to pay a regular fare and don’t have a metroCARD.
The Buy & Go app allows you to purchase tickets at any time. Buy & Go fares are the same as metroCARD fares. You can buy Regular, Concession and Student Singletrip, Daytrips, 14 and 28 Day Passes and 3-day Visitor Passes to be used on buses, trains trams. The Buy & Go app is a good option if you want to access the full range of tickets and passes from your smart phone, rather than carrying a metroCARD.
Your fare lasts for two hours from when you validate your ticket or metroCARD, unless you have unlimited daily travel on a:
- Daytrip ticket (expires 4:00 am the day after purchase)
- Cruise ship pass
- Visitor Pass (three days)
- 14-Day or 28-Day Pass on metroCARD and the Buy & Go app.
These passes are loaded to a metroCARD or can be purchased on the Buy & Go app, and give you unlimited bus, train and tram travel for either 14 or 28 days in a row. This means they are good for people who use public transport most days of the week, as they work out cheaper than normal fares.
You can add a pass to a metroCARD
- through your online metroCARD account (if you’ve registered the card with us)
- at the InfoCentre in the Adelaide Railway Station
- at metroCARD retailers or vending machines across Adelaide
- using a vending machine on-board trains and trams
- by calling the InfoLine on 1300 311 108.
You can also buy and activate these passes on the Adelaide Metro Buy & Go app.
When you add a pass to a metroCARD, it will start its countdown of days the next time the card is validated. You can’t pause a 14-Day or 28-Day Pass – it will expire after its allocated time, no matter how many times or what days of the week you validate it. When you add it to the Buy & Go app, you will need to activate it before it can be used.
You can load up to two extra 14-Day or 28-Day passes onto your metroCARD. When your current pass expires, the next one will activate automatically when you next validate, so you’re always ready to travel.
You can only buy one 14-Day Pass and/or one 28-Day Pass at a time on the Buy & Go app. Once you have activated a pass, you can buy another one of that type, but you will not be able to activate any new 14-Day or 28-Day Pass until your active pass has expired. Buy & Go tickets are non-refundable and expire after 12 months if unused, and passes can’t be paused once activated.
You can buy:
You can also purchase Singletrips, Daytrips, 14/28-Day Passes and 3-Day Visitor Passes on the free Adelaide Metro Buy & Go app.
No. Adelaide Metro buses are cashless and you cannot purchase tickets on board.
To pay for your fare with cash, you can buy a metroCARD in person, then either recharge it for access to best-value fares or load it with a Singletrip ticket.
Alternatively, you can buy tickets on the Adelaide Metro Buy & Go app or Tap and Pay with your Visa, Mastercard or American Express credit/debit card or smart device.
We can only track, cancel or replace registered metroCARDs.
Contact us to cancel your registered metroCARD as soon as you notice it is missing. If you have auto recharge setup on a metroCARD, cancel that, too. Either:
- call our InfoLine on 1300 311 108
- visit us at the InfoCentre Adelaide Railway Centre.
If your registered metroCARD is lost, stolen or damaged, we can transfer any remaining balance to a different metroCARD you own, or you can buy a new metroCARD and we will transfer it to that. When you buy a new card, you may also need to pay a bit extra to top up your balance to the nearest $5.
