UPDATE 14 NOVEMBER: Outer Harbor and Grange rail line closures until January 2018

When: From Sunday 24 September 2017 to Monday 15 January 2018

UPDATE 14 NOVEMBER: The Outer Harbor and Grange rail lines temporary closure will be extended until 2018 with services expected to resume on Monday 15 January to allow works to continue for the Torrens Rail Junction Project. 

Catch FREE substitute buses during the closure, operating as close to the existing train timetables as practicable. Temporary timetables are available below.

Outer Harbor and Grange lines

  • Will be fully closed between Adelaide and Outer Harbor/Grange
  • Closed from 10pm Sunday 24 September reopening 15 January 2017
  • FREE substitute buses will pick up and set down at stop W1 North Terrace, opposite Adelaide Railway Station
  • Buses will also set down at stops E3 Currie Street and Y2 King William Street on request
  • Works for the tram line extension project in the city may cause delays to substitute buses

Wheelchair Passengers

All bus substitute services are accessible for all customers, including the elderly, customers with a disability and those travelling with prams.

If you have a large mobility devices that does not fit on buses, please contact the Torrens Transit Mile End depot on 8292 8113 to request an Access Cab or ask the driver.

Extra Pageant Day car parking at Bonython Park

With the Outer Harbor train line closed on Pageant Day, Adelaide Metro and City of Adelaide are offering extra car parking at Bonython Park for customers wanting another option to get to and from this event. Parking is $8.50 for the day.

Park the car, then hop on a bus at Port Road stop 2 or Port Road stop 4 or the tram at the Bonython Park or Thebarton tram stops to get into the city. See a map of Bonython Park and nearby transport stops below.

Public transport is FREE until 2pm on Saturday 18 November.

Due to road closures, some buses are detouring and trams from the Entertainment Centre are not operating past Adelaide Railway Station.

Bicycle Passengers

Bicycles not permitted on bus substitute services.

Cruise Ship Passengers

For Cruise Ship arrivals, a dedicated Cruise Ship passenger shuttle will run express between Adelaide and Outer Harbor to cater for the specific demand of Cruise Ship passengers.   

Purchase the special Cruise Ship metroCARD at the Outer Harbor Railway Station and get around Adelaide all day for just $10.  This metroCARD entitles holders to unlimited travel on Adelaide Metro bus, train and tram services all day, and you can keep your card at the end of your travels as a memento of your time in Adelaide.

Australian Seniors travel free between 9am – 3pm upon presentation of an Australian Seniors Card.  

Project information

The $238 million joint State and Commonwealth Torrens Rail Junction project involves separating the freight and passenger rail lines and removing level crossings at Park Terrace and Gibson Street. We thank you for your patience whilst these important works are undertaken.
