Temporary Gawler line closure Adelaide to Mawson Interchange from 1 October 2017

When: From Sunday 1 October 2017 to Sunday 15 October 2017

  • Routes affected:

The Gawler rail line will be temporarily closed between Adelaide and Mawson Interchange from first service Sunday 1 October until last service Sunday 15 October 2017 to allow works to continue for the Torrens Rail Junction Project.

Gawler line substitute buses and trains will operate free of charge during the closure period operating as close to the existing train timetables as practicable.

Temporary timetables are available below.

Gawler line

  • Will be partially closed between Adelaide and Mawson Interchange, trains will operate between Mawson Interchange and Gawler Central
  • Closed from first service Sunday 1 October until last service Sunday 15 October, reopening for first service Monday 16 October 2017
  • North Adelaide Station will not be serviced by substitute buses - passengers are advised to either catch the tram (free travel between the Adelaide Entertainment Centre and South Terrace, city) or stop 6 Jeffcott Street for 250-254 bus services
  • Substitute buses will pick up and set down at stop D North Terrace, outside the Intercontinental Hotel
  • Buses will also set down at stop A3 King William Street
  • Please note that due to works for the tram line extension project substitute buses may experience delays in the city

Wheelchair Passengers

  • All bus substitute services are accessible for all customers, including the elderly, customers with a disability and those travelling with prams.
  • Coaches will be utilised on the Gawler line during AM and PM peak periods, which are not accessible. However an Adelaide Metro bus (which is accessible) is scheduled to depart at the same time as the coach to cater for wheelchair and elderly passengers.
  • In the event there is insufficient space on the bus for a wheelchair (as buses cannot carry as many wheelchairs as a train), the drivers are instructed to contact the depot to arrange an accessible cab.  
  • If you have a large mobility devices that does not fit on buses passengers are to be advise to ask the driver to arrange an Access Cab.

Bicycle Passengers

Bicycles not permitted on bus substitute services.

The $238 million joint State and Commonwealth project involves separating the freight and passenger rail lines and removing level crossings at Park Terrace and Gibson Street. We thank you for your patience whilst these important works are undertaken.
